Zelensky gave citizenship to the Russian hockey player from HC "Donbass" – Ukraine News, Politics


One of those foreigners to whom President Vladimir Zelensky granted Ukrainian citizenship today is Russian Alexander Kostikov, a player of the Donbass hockey club, who in the past played in the Russian Federation. This is reported by News of Donbass.

According to the publication, Kostikov moved to Donbass in 2017. Previously, he played in the youth hockey championship in Russia.

Kostikov was born in Moscow in 1997, reports the publication.

The owner of HC "Donbass" is the former regional Boris Kolesnikov, the former deputy prime minister and former infrastructure minister in the government of Mykola Azarov.

After the start of the conflict in Donbass, the club moved from Donetsk to Druzhkovka controlled by the Ukraine, in the Donetsk region.

Today, Zelensky has signed a decree that he decided to take Ukrainian citizenship of individuals "whose acceptance into Ukrainian citizenship is of public interest". Among these – the Russian Alexander Kostikov.
