China News Service, Xining, January 26th (Pan Yujie Ma Mingyan) “My shining white mother, my black onyx mother, my azalea mother, my clear and refreshing mother, your warm fragrance is unparalleled in the world…”

This is a fragment from the novel “Snow Mountain Land” by writer Yang Zhijun. It describes the scene when the Tibetan girl Mei Duo sang Tibetan songs and gave them to Dr. Miao, the Han “grandmother” who voluntarily came to the grassland to treat herders.

The novel tells the story of the life changes of several generations of herders on the Qinghai Plateau and the story of people of all ethnic groups living here working together to protect the grassland and build their homes. Last year, it won the 11th Mao Dun Literature Award. At the second meeting of the 14th Qinghai Provincial People’s Congress on the 24th, Qinghai Provincial Governor Wu Xiaojun also mentioned this matter when delivering his government work report.

Qinghai Province is located in the northeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, deep inland, connected to Xinjiang and Tibet, and connected to the southwest. Since ancient times, many ethnic groups have lived together, multi-cultures have blended, and multi-religions have coexisted. It is the province with the largest proportion of ethnic regional autonomy in the country.

Each ethnic group has its own beauty, and the beauty is shared. This is not only a vivid scene described in the novel, but also a true portrayal of Qinghai today. “Qinghai Province’s ethnic unity and progress work continues to be at the forefront of the country, and the awareness of the Chinese nation’s community is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.” Wu Xiaojun said.

Last year, Qinghai Province added 11 new national ethnic unity and progress demonstration zones and demonstration units, creating 388 “Pomegranate Seed Home” communities; three-level social governance comprehensive service centers at the city, county and township levels, and county-level “one-stop” conflict and dispute mediation centers Achieve full coverage, use the “Maple Bridge” working method to build a “connecting heart bridge”, and continuously improve grassroots governance capabilities.

On this basis, the province continues to improve people’s livelihood and well-being: 40,000 farmers and herdsmen’s living conditions have been improved, and 45,600 urban households with housing difficulties have realized their “dream of housing in peace”; “one elderly and one small” care project has been carried out, and 56 communities have been built and operated Elderly care service sites, 131 rural mutual-aid elderly care sites, and infant and child care institutions increased by 3.3 times; the quality of the close medical community was improved, medical support operations were promoted in Qingnan Plateau and around the lake area, and Class II public hospitals achieved full coverage in the county.

In terms of education and employment, Qinghai Province added 11,000 basic education degrees last year, and the registered employment rate of college graduates was 90%; it organized “point-to-point” job transfers for migrant workers, increased the number of labor service brands, and carried out subsidized skills training for 108,600 people.

After the 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in Jishishan, Gansu last year, Haidong citizens in Qinghai Province and Zhongchuan Township in the Hui and Tu Autonomous County were severely affected. In the face of the disaster, the whole province made concerted efforts, racing against time and fighting the severe cold, and concentrated on resettling 9,803 households with 45,218 people affected by the disaster. The resettlement sites have complete facilities and all services are in place. “Let the disaster-stricken people live in peace of mind and live a warm life.” Wu Xiaojun said.

It is reported that in 2023, Qinghai Province’s fiscal expenditures for people’s livelihood will account for 76%. All 41 people’s livelihood projects in ten categories identified at the beginning of last year have been completed, and the income growth rate of farmers and herdsmen is higher than the national average.

“In Qinghai, people of all ethnic groups help each other, live in harmony, and embrace each other like pomegranate seeds to create a better life together,” Wu Xiaojun said. (over)
