The 1010music Blackbox 2 sampler arrives in July, bringing a larger touchscreen, an onboard rechargeable battery, and USB audio streaming to the portable production market, according to announcements from the company reported by MusicRadar and Superbooth 2026 coverage on NewsBreak.

Hardware Improvements and Portable Battery Power

According to Superbooth 2026 reporting published on NewsBreak, the 1010music Blackbox 2 serves as a successor to the 2019 original. The updated hardware features a four-inch high-resolution color touchscreen that functions as the primary interface for sequencing and sample editing. A bank of four multi-use rotaries sits above the screen, while transport and navigation buttons are positioned below it.

Unlike its predecessor, which required an external power source, the Blackbox 2 includes an integrated rechargeable battery. According to MusicRadar and NewsBreak coverage, this battery provides up to three hours of fully portable operation. The device measures in a compact, rugged chassis equipped with a microSD card slot for expanding project and sample storage, allowing users to stream longer WAV files and multisampled instruments directly from the card.

Audio Routing and Connectivity Upgrades

The device introduces upgraded connectivity options for studio and stage setups. According to Superbooth 2026 coverage, the Blackbox 2 features USB-C host and device ports capable of transmitting multichannel USB audio alongside MIDI data. For physical connections, the hardware includes a stereo main audio input, three stereo outputs, and a dedicated headphone output.

The workstation retains core audio tools from the original model, including an automatic multisampling function that turns external gear into sampled instruments. Sample editing features include multiple filters, envelopes, LFOs, distortion, a flexible modulation matrix, and a four-band EQ supporting cut, shelf, and parametric modes for each band.

Workflow and Sequencing Enhancements

The Blackbox 2 operates as a four-track workstation capable of loading up to four one-shot, loop, slicer, or multisample instruments. According to published specifications, one-shot and loop instruments support up to 16 samples per patch. The sequencer supports step, grid, and piano-roll modes, alongside probability sequencing capabilities.

To expand song-creation features, 1010music added new launch, scene, song, mixing, and effect screens for editing composition elements. The workstation also includes DJ-style effects controlled via an XY pad, covering filter, echo, gating, flanger, bitcrusher, and repeater effects.

Market Positioning and Pricing

Scheduled for a July release, the Blackbox 2 will retail for $649, according to MusicRadar and NewsBreak. The instrument enters a crowded portable sampler landscape that includes devices from Akai, Teenage Engineering, and Casio, placing the updated workstation into active competition within the portable production market.
