Multisectoral Response Secures Alternative Protection
The operation took place during a property eviction process in Nueva Aurora, according to the Municipality of Viña del Mar. Initial inspections by municipal personnel, Carabineros, residents, and animal welfare organizations found 17 dogs living on the premises.
Ultimately, 11 dogs required removal after the person in charge failed to meet established deadlines to withdraw them. The intervention aimed to prevent the animals from being abandoned or left wandering public streets.
Coordinated Contingency Plan Deployed Across Municipal Departments
The municipal Environment section coordinated a contingency plan alongside the Legal Advisory Directorate, Community Development, Community Security, Inspection, and the veterinary team to secure alternative protection for the canines.
Viña del Mar Mayor Macarena Ripamonti praised the coordination between the city administration, neighborhood residents, and animal protection groups following the procedure.
“It is very satisfying when we manage to provide care and rescue dogs that have been in poor conditions, giving them the veterinary attention they need and concretely improving their quality of life,” Ripamonti stated.
Formal Complaints Filed and Dogs Transported to Santiago
The mayor credited local residents for reporting conditions impacting animal welfare and acknowledged the work of animal protection groups in the commune. Alongside the rescue, officials filed a formal complaint for abandonment while the municipality monitored the ongoing judicial proceedings concerning the property.
The animal welfare organization “Black es por ti” managed the transportation of the 11 rescued dogs to Santiago, executing the transfer through a collaborative effort with municipal teams and the local community. Municipal authorities confirmed they will continue carrying out operations focused on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership to mitigate risks for both residents and animals in the area.
