Texas Legends Draft Jeremy Sochan No. 1 Overall in 2026 NBA G League Draft
The Texas Legends selected 23-year-old forward Jeremy Sochan with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA G League draft on Saturday afternoon. Sochan enters the draft pool after signing an NBAGL contract following his release from the Portland Trail Blazers, who waived him last week after training camp and the preseason.
Texas, the Dallas Mavericks’ affiliate team, held the top selection for the second time in the past four years. The top pick changed hands four times leading up to the draft, according to Sportsnet.ca reporter Blake Murphy, amid a busy stretch that saw 77 trades involving the 31 first-round selections.

Sochan Wins NBA Championship with New York Knicks
Sochan entered the professional ranks as the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs out of Baylor. During his first three seasons in San Antonio, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged at least 11 points per game while taking on experimental roles as a point guard and small-ball center.
His playing time diminished during his fourth season in 2025/26. Following his release after the trade deadline, Sochan signed with the New York Knicks. He appeared in 16 regular-season games averaging 6.9 minutes and eight postseason contests averaging 3.3 minutes, ultimately winning an NBA championship when the Knicks defeated the Spurs in the NBA Finals. Over 228 total regular-season games, Sochan holds career averages of 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per contest.

Roster Implications for the Dallas Mavericks
Drafting Sochan does not grant the Mavericks control over his NBA rights, meaning another NBA franchise can still sign him directly. Because Sochan has four years of NBA service, he is no longer eligible for a two-way contract. Instead, the selection allows the Mavericks to evaluate him firsthand in the G League system before deciding whether to offer him a standard NBA contract.
Teams across the league will fill out their rosters in the coming days using affiliate players, returning rights players, tryout participants, and assignees from NBA rosters. G League training camps open on Monday.
