Yeosu World Island Expo 2026: A Global Focus on Islands

The 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea, scheduled to capture place in Yeosu, South Korea, from September 5 to November 4, 2026, will be the world’s first international event dedicated entirely to islands. The two-month expo will center around the theme “Connecting Islands, Oceans, and the Future,” highlighting the unique value and increasing importance of islands in a changing world.

Attracting International Participation and Tourism

The organizing committee is actively working to attract international visitors and participation. Recent promotional efforts, conducted between February 20th and March 2nd, included information sessions in Los Angeles and meetings with officials in Hawaii, as well as visits to Caribbean nations like the Dominican Republic, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago. These initiatives aim to secure participation from 30 countries and boost tourism during the expo period. Currently, 28 countries have confirmed their participation .

Expo Logistics and Transportation

Organizers anticipate over 20,000 foreign tourists will visit Yeosu during the expo. Plans are underway to accommodate this influx through international cruises and flights to Yeosu Airport. Ten arrivals are scheduled from large international cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and Mitsui Ocean Fuji. Eight irregular international flights connecting Vietnam, China, and Mongolia are being prepared, totaling 16 flights . Efforts are being made to streamline arrival and departure processes for international guests.

The expo will span 180,200m² across various locations in Yeosu, including Dolsan Jinmo District, Yeosu World Expo Center, Geumo Island, and Gaedo Island . The exhibition will be structured around two main themes:

• Part 2: Journeying Across Yeosu’s Waters: Connecting 11 Islands via Eleven Bridges
