Vantaca CEO Ben Currin Earns NC TECH Honor

Wilmington-based Vantaca CEO Ben Currin has been named Tech CEO of the Year by NC TECH as part of its 2026 awards program, WilmingtonBiz reported. The trade association selected individual winners earlier this month for contributions to North Carolina’s technology sector, recognizing leaders across company performance, core innovation, and individual achievement.

Vantaca Reaches Unicorn Status with $1.25 Billion Valuation

Currin joined Vantaca in 2017 after holding various executive strategy and operational roles before stepping into the chief executive position in 2020. Dave Sweyer, who previously owned Community Association Management Services, and David Gunn originally founded the company in 2015 to build software for community management firms in the HOA industry. Last year, the artificial intelligence-first community association management software company reached financial unicorn status with a valuation of $1.25 billion. Vantaca recently expanded its executive leadership team and launched an artificial intelligence agent suite known as HOAi Fleet.

During a panel appearance at the Business Journal’s Spark ILM event earlier this month alongside Live Oak Bank President BJ Losch, Currin discussed his approach to scaling operations. When we got started, it was a team of four of us, so that’s different than 400 (employees), Currin said at the event. There’s a million things we’re trying to do and a million priorities. So, I always think about my job as CEO of the company is to make it as simple as possible.

He added a core philosophy regarding team direction: Don’t tell people what to do. Tell them why we’re doing it.

Broader Recognition Across the State

Alongside Currin’s recognition, NC TECH named State Treasurer Brad Briner as Public Leader of the Year and selected SAS CEO and co-founder Jim Goodnight for the Beacon Award. Vantaca currently provides software services to more than 550 management companies and over six million households across the country.

It’s an incredible honor to be named CEO of the Year by NC TECH, but I accept it on behalf of the entire Vantaca team, Currin stated in an email to the Business Journal. This recognition belongs to the people whose commitment, creativity and customer focus drive our success every day.
