A Perdue Farms truck driver died Sunday morning when his tractor-trailer went overboard from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT), prompting a recovery operation and a temporary lane closure. The driver has been identified as 61-year-old Ronnie Andrews of Robersonville, North Carolina.
Details of the Incident
The crash occurred around 6:40 a.m. In the southbound lanes near the North Channel Bridge, just south of Fisherman’s Island. Authorities reported that the tractor-trailer left the roadway and entered the water according to a press release from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
Emergency responders, including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Virginia Beach Marine Rescue Team, and Crofton Diving of Portsmouth, worked to recover Andrews’ body and the vehicle. Both were recovered Sunday evening as reported by 13NewsNow.
