Medical Helicopter Crash in Evergreen, Alabama: Investigation Underway

Evergreen, Alabama – An investigation is underway following a medical helicopter crash that occurred Sunday afternoon in Conecuh County, approximately 80 miles southwest of Montgomery and 100 miles northeast of Mobile. The incident took place near Evergreen Hospital, as the air ambulance was attempting to land.

Details of the Crash

According to Conecuh County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Larry Davis, the helicopter crashed around 3:15 p.m. On South Main Street, near 303 South Main Street. The pilot was attempting to land at Evergreen Hospital when the aircraft impacted the ground for an unknown reason. No damage occurred to the nearby home.

Passengers and Injuries

Three individuals were onboard the medical helicopter at the time of the crash. Davis confirmed that there were no fatalities reported. All three victims were transported by ambulance to an out-of-town hospital for evaluation, but their conditions remain unknown at this time [WSFA 12 News].

Investigation and Road Closure

Federal aviation agencies have been notified and will be conducting an on-scene investigation. The Evergreen Police Department is currently blocking off the area to secure the crash site. The roadway from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Evergreen Medical Center remains closed for an undetermined period. Larry Davis, the Conecuh County EMA Director, was instrumental in providing information regarding the incident. He as well previously served as assistant to the Mayor of Evergreen for eight years and was the Treasurer of the Conecuh County Fire Association in 2024 [The Evergreen Courant]. Davis is also a write-in candidate for Conecuh County sheriff [Clarke County Democrat].
