Police Clear Sarcelles Neighborhood Over Weaponized Vehicle
Authorities evacuated approximately 300 residents and patrons from a neighborhood in Sarcelles, France, on Saturday evening after the discovery of a suspicious vehicle. The General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) flagged the car based on intelligence suggesting it could be used in an attack against the local Jewish community.
While bomb disposal experts found no explosives inside, the search revealed a handgun and an assault rifle. The incident unfolded in a busy area of the Val-d’Oise commune, forcing police to establish a security perimeter near local restaurants and a cinema. According to police sources, the car had been reported as stolen.
Counter-Terrorism Prosecutors Launch Inquiry
Following the discovery of the firearms, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) opened an investigation into the matter.

Intelligence Focus on Jewish Community Safety
The DGSI’s intervention was prompted by specific intelligence regarding the potential targeting of Sarcelles’ Jewish population, which is one of the largest in the Paris region.
Ongoing Investigation Into Weapon Origins
Although the vehicle did not contain explosive devices, the presence of military-grade weaponry—specifically an assault rifle and a handgun—triggered the involvement of national counter-terrorism prosecutors. As of Sunday, investigators are working to determine the origin of the weapons and the intended purpose of the vehicle, which remains the subject of an ongoing police inquiry.
