Cohlton Schultz Competes in Astana for Team USA at Senior World Championships
Five-time All-American Cohlton Schultz is representing Team USA at the UWW Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, opening his run in the 130 kg Greco-Roman bracket on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 p.m. MST, thesundevils.com reported. The tournament runs through Nov. 1, with live broadcasts streaming on FloWrestling and live brackets available on FloArena.
Schultz enters the international stage following a gold medal at the Pan-Am Games, a silver medal at the Zagreb Open Ranking Series event in Croatia, and a U.S. Open championship title earlier this year. He trains under the Southwest Wrestling Club and is coached by Arizona State Wrestling associate head coach Eric Thompson, who is alongside sophomore Ben Szuba in Kazakhstan to support Schultz through the event.
Weighing International Resilience Against Past World Championship Finishes
This tournament marks Schultz’s fifth career appearance for Team USA at the Senior World Championships. In 2025, he finished 16th at the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, after dropping a 5-2 decision to Sergei Semenov in the opening round. In 2023, he placed 10th following a 4-0 defeat by fall against Armenia’s David Ovasapyan.
Despite those setbacks on the global stage, Schultz built a storied collegiate career as a heavyweight for Arizona State. He compiled a 109-18 career record, captured four Pac-12 titles from 2021 to 2024, and reached the finals of the Big 12. In 2024, USA Wrestling named him the Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year after he defeated Adam Coon at Final X to secure his spot on the World Team.

Sun Devil Wrestling Legacy on the Global Stage
Schultz stands alone in Arizona State history as the program’s only five-time All-American, earning three top-5 finishes at the NCAA Championships and finishing as the national runner-up in 2023. At the 2022 NCAA Championships, he received the Gorriaran Award for securing the most pins in the least amount of time.
Among Sun Devil wrestling alumni, current head coach Zeke Jones remains the sole representative to win in his Senior Worlds weight class, taking the 52 kg title in 1991. Schultz has spent seven years representing the red, white, and blue since 2019.
