Toyota Invests $1 Billion in Kentucky and Indiana Plants, Reinforcing U.S. Manufacturing Commitment
Toyota Motor Corporation is bolstering its presence in the United States with a $1 billion investment across its manufacturing facilities in Kentucky and Indiana. The announcement, made on Monday, coincides with the 40th anniversary of Toyota’s operations at its Georgetown, Kentucky plant – the company’s largest vehicle manufacturing facility globally.
Kentucky Expansion: $800 Million for Capacity and Electrification
The majority of the investment, $800 million, will be directed towards the Georgetown plant. This funding is earmarked to increase production capacity and support Toyota’s ongoing efforts to transition towards electric vehicles. The Georgetown facility currently produces the Toyota Camry, RAV4, and Highlander .
Indiana Production Boost: $200 Million Investment
An additional $200 million will be allocated to expand production capabilities at Toyota’s Indiana manufacturing plant. Specific details regarding the nature of the expansion in Indiana were not immediately available.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear lauded the investment and the longstanding partnership between Toyota and the state. “Kentucky changed for the better 40 years ago when Toyota chose to create Georgetown its New Kentucky Home, and I am proud to say that partnership and success continues today as we celebrate this remarkable milestone together,” said Governor Beshear. He highlighted Toyota Kentucky’s significant contribution to the state’s economy, noting that the plant has produced over 14 million vehicles since its inception and provides substantial employment opportunities.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK), established in 1986, is a subsidiary of Toyota Motor North America. As of 2022, the plant employed approximately 9,300 people . TMMK’s current production includes the Toyota Camry, RAV4, and Highlander, as well as engines .
