Jacksonville Golf and Country Club Embarks on $30 Million Renovation, Augusta National Supports Junior Golf

Jacksonville Golf and Country Club (JGCC) is moving forward with a comprehensive $30 million renovation project, while Augusta National Golf Club has committed $1.5 million to the U.S. Junior Golf National Development Program. These developments highlight a significant investment in both local golf infrastructure and the future of the sport nationally.

Jacksonville Golf and Country Club’s “Blueprint for Tomorrow”

Announced last year, the JGCC renovation, dubbed “Blueprint for Tomorrow,” will overhaul the club’s facilities, including the golf course, pool, and fitness center. Phase One, slated to begin in September, will focus on the pool, a casual bar and grill, dining areas, and the wellness center.

The golf course renovation, led by architect Andy Staples of Staples Golf Design, will commence in the Fall of 2027. The project will involve rebuilding tees, fairways, greens, and bunkers, as well as installing new drainage and irrigation systems. The course, originally designed in 1989 by Clyde Johnston with Fuzzy Zoeller as a player-consultant, will see significant changes, including the elimination of the double-green serving the ninth and 18th holes. The ninth hole will be transformed into a drivable par-4, and the 18th will become a dogleg left with water hazards. Greens will also incorporate design features like Redan, Biarritz, and Punchbowl styles.

“JGCC has some great bones but the infrastructure is well past its useful life,” Staples said in a statement. “The plan not only addresses those critical needs, it gives us a chance to create something timeless. We’re blending classically inspired design elements with our own unique spin.”

JGCC members will be assessed $31,750 for golf memberships and $19,150 for social memberships to fund the renovations.

Augusta National Invests in Junior Golf Development

Augusta National Golf Club has donated $1.5 million to the U.S. Golf Association National Development Program, supporting the establishment of state junior teams to foster pathways for young golfers. The donation will provide $500,000 annually from 2026 through 2028.

Florida was among the first states to form a junior national team in 2024, with Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach, Tyler Mawhinney of Fleming Island, and Phillip Dunham of Ponte Vedra Beach as inaugural members. Mawhinney and Dunham are currently on the Florida team.

North Florida Junior Tour Summer Schedule

The North Florida Junior Foundation has scheduled nine events for its summer tour, spanning from Nassau to Volusia County. The season begins on May 24 with the Fernandina Beach Classic and concludes on July 27-28 with the NFJG Tour Championship at Marsh Landing Country Club and the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.

Events will also be held at the Golf Club at Cypress Head, San Jose Country Club, Jacksonville Golf and Country Club, TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley, King & Bear, and Deerwood (two events).
