Pembroke High Basketball Coach Juggles Tour Life with LIV Golf Writing

Pembroke High School’s boys basketball coach, Matt Vincenzi, leads a double life – guiding the Titans on the court and covering the world of professional golf as a full-time writer for LIV Golf. The unique arrangement allows the 35-year-vintage to pursue two passions, a feat he initially wasn’t sure was possible.

From Classroom to Global Stage

Vincenzi’s journey began with 11 years as a middle school teacher in Rockland and Pembroke whereas writing about sports part-time, initially sharing drafts with his father. He later transitioned to writing for the Action Network, followed by a two-year stint with Sports Illustrated before joining LIV Golf. He credits his education at Plymouth North, Fitchburg State, and Bridgewater State University with preparing him for his writing career.

Balancing Act: Coaching and Covering LIV Golf

In his five seasons as Pembroke’s head coach, Vincenzi has achieved a 60-42 record, including a historic 17-3 season. He remotely covered the first two LIV Golf tour stops in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Adelaide, Australia, in February 2026, prioritizing his coaching duties. He will resume on-site coverage in March, traveling to events in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa, Mexico, Spain, Great Britain, and the U.S., spending approximately 21 weeks on the road annually.

A Program He Didn’t Want to Leave

Despite the demands of his writing career, Vincenzi was determined to continue coaching the Pembroke Titans. “I didn’t think I was going to do both, but I didn’t want to offer up my program,” he said. LIV Golf supported his decision, allowing him to balance both roles.

Impact on the Team

Players recognize Vincenzi’s dedication and positive influence. Senior forward Nick Carbone highlighted his emphasis on defense, while senior guard Mike Marcella praised his ability to connect with players and revitalize the program. The team is on the verge of qualifying for the Division 3 postseason for the fifth time under Vincenzi’s leadership.

A Passion for Golf

Vincenzi’s interest in golf began in 2018, and he now has a connection with LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau. He finds the sport’s unpredictable nature captivating, noting that even lower-ranked players have the potential to win tournaments.
