109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku Celebrates 90s British Culture with Special Film Screenings and Talk Show

109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku is hosting “UK Cinema WEEKS with DOMMUNE at 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku,” a commemorative project coinciding with the “Tate Museum – YBA & BEYOND 90s British Art that Changed the World” exhibition at the National Art Center, Tokyo. The event will showcase five films and video works reflecting the cultural enthusiasm of 1990s Britain, screened weekly in theaters equipped with the SAION sound system, supervised by Ryuichi Sakamoto.

YBA and the Cultural Landscape of 90s Britain

YBA, short for “Young British Artist,” refers to a trend in British contemporary art that gained prominence in the 1990s. Artists like Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, and Sarah Lucas defined this movement, which the current exhibition at the National Art Center, Tokyo, explores.
