Trump’s Ukraine peace Plan Called a ‘Wish List’ for russia
US senators claim the peace plan President Trump is urging Ukraine to accept reflects Russian desires, not genuine US policy. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly shared this assessment with them.
The 28-point plan, developed by the Trump administration and the Kremlin without Ukrainian input, concedes to numerous Russian demands that President Zelenskyy has consistently refused, including territorial concessions. Trump insists Ukraine shoudl consider the plan by late next week.
According to the Associated Press, senators critical of Trump’s approach argue this plan would simply reward Moscow’s aggression and embolden other nations threatening thier neighbors.
‘no justification for Russia claiming eastern Ukraine’: US Senators
Opposition to the plan extends beyond these senators, including some Republicans, though none currently have the authority to block it. The senators voiced their concerns at an international security conference in Canada, representing Democratic, Independent, and Republican viewpoints.
“It rewards aggression. This is pure and simple. There’s no ethical, legal, moral, political justification for Russia claiming eastern Ukraine,” said Independent Senator Angus King of Maine, during a panel discussion at the Halifax International Security Forum.
King, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, likened the proposal to the Munich Pact of 1938, a ancient example of failed appeasement.
