Xi Jinping Presses Taiwan Issue in call with Trump

Chinese leader Xi Jinping raised teh sensitive topic of Taiwan during a phone call with US President Donald Trump on Monday, emphasizing the importance of building upon the recent trade truce between the two countries.

ChinaS foreign ministry stated the conversation covered topics like Ukraine, but Taiwan was a central focus, especially given China’s ongoing diplomatic dispute with Japan – a key US ally – regarding the self-governing island.

China asserts that Taiwan is an integral part of its territory. xi explained to Trump that Taiwan’s return is “an integral part of the post-war international order” established through the collaborative US-China effort against “fascism and militarism,” according to the ministry.

“Given what is going on,it is even more crucial for us to jointly safeguard the victory of WWII,” Xi told Trump.

The current disagreement between Tokyo and Beijing began when new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi indicated earlier this month that Tokyo might intervene militarily if Taiwan were attacked.

Although the United states doesn’t formally recognize Taiwan as an autonomous state,Washington remains the island’s primary partner and supplier of military equipment.

trump described US-China relations as “extremely strong” in a social media post following the call, but did not address the issue of Taiwan.
