Sainz: Fifth in Las Vegas Was the Maximum

Carlos Sainz believes that fifth in the Las Vegas Grand Prix “was the maximum we could do” after finishing as the top midfield runner.

The Spaniard delivered a strong qualifying performance in a wet and treacherous session, starting third for the 50-lap race on the Las Vegas streets.

Sainz lost a position to George Russell at the start and held fourth during the initial stint. He then fell behind Kimi Antonelli, Oscar piastri, and Charles Leclerc during the pit stop phase, finishing seventh on the road.

Post-race disqualifications for McLaren drivers Piastri and Lando Norris elevated Sainz to fifth in the final classification, his second-best result of the season following his podium finish in Baku.

“I think we need to be happy. It was the maximum that we could do today,” Sainz said regarding his initial P7 result.

“Maybe we were a bit conservative around the pit stops with the undercuts and overcuts of Piastri and Leclerc.We could have fought a bit harder with the timing of the pit stop to see if we could have kept them behind.”
