Texas Lottery Winner’s $71.5 Million Prize Frozen in Legal Dispute
A Texas retiree believed she’d struck gold, winning €71.5 million in the lottery. A week later, an administrative decision froze her winnings, turning her dream into a legal battle.
On February 17, 2025, an 83-year-old retiree, identified as Jane Doe, thoght she won 71.5 million euros in the Lotto Texas game using the mobile request Jackpocket Lottery. Days later, the Texas Lottery Commission (TLC) banned unauthorized third-party ticket purchasing services – including Jackpocket – and froze her winnings, as reported by Presse Citron.
Jane Doe purchased her winning ticket through Jackpocket on February 17th.When her numbers were drawn, she believed she had won the equivalent of 71.5 million euros. Shortly after,the TLC announced that all unauthorized third-party services were prohibited from purchasing lottery tickets,which included Jackpocket.
“Nothing in the law allows, in principle, to modify the terms of a game after the winners have been designated,” a legal expert stated.
Her winnings remain frozen. She has yet to recieve any payment, and is now pursuing legal action.
