Champion apprentice jockey Joe Leavy is currently in hospital recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident. Fellow jockey William Carver was among his passengers.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning, resulting in a broken collarbone and jaw for Leavy, 20. He remains hospitalized. Carver,26,and a female passenger were treated and released.
Both Leavy and Carver were scheduled to ride at Kempton on monday, but have been stood down following the single-vehicle accident near Hungerford, Berkshire.
Phil Shea, Leavy’s agent, confirmed the extent of his injuries. “Joe’s okay. He’s conscious and he’s talking, which is really good news. He’s broken his jaw and his collarbone and, while I’ve not spoken with him, I have spoken to his parents who are with him in hospital.”
Shea added, “They were all lucky and it’s a case of getting him back fit and well and ready to ride again when the time comes.”
Leavy, based with Richard Hannon, recently secured the apprentice jockeys’ title this year with an impressive 41 wins.
