SmartTube for Android TV Hit by malware Attack

The YouTube client SmartTube for Android TV experienced a security breach. Attackers gained access to the development process, injected malicious code into the app, and distributed it to users through an update. The compromised version is now offline, and the developer has addressed the issue.

Background

The developer announced on GitHub that an unauthorized individual obtained their private key for app signing. This allowed the attacker to sign the malware-infected app, making it appear legitimate. Fortunately, Google’s Play Protect system detected and blocked the compromised app for some users.

Reports indicate that affected users experienced issues with the app’s functionality. The developer is working to resolve the problem and release a clean version.

Anyone who has installed SmartTube should uninstall it immediately for security reasons.A new, secure version is already in development and will be released soon. Users should wait for the updated version before reinstalling the app.
