Columbia REA Announces 3% Rate Increase Effective January 2026
WALLA WALLA – Columbia REA, a member-owned electric cooperative serving walla Walla and surrounding areas, will increase rates by an average of three percent beginning January 1, 2026. This adjustment is necessary to address rising costs associated with maintaining and upgrading the electrical infrastructure, ensuring continued reliable service for its members.
The decision to increase rates wasn’t taken lightly. Columbia REA has actively worked to manage costs and maintain affordability for its members. Though, significant increases in wholesale power costs, materials, and labor have made a rate adjustment unavoidable. These rising expenses impact the cooperative’s ability to invest in critical infrastructure improvements, vegetation management, and essential services.
“We understand that any rate increase impacts our members, and we’ve worked diligently to minimize the amount while still allowing us to fulfill our commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity,” saeid a Columbia REA spokesperson. “This adjustment will allow us to continue investing in the grid, enhancing service quality, and responding to the evolving energy needs of our community.”
