EU Releases €2.4 Million in Emergency Aid for Flood-Affected Communities in Southeast asia

The European union has allocated €2.4 million in emergency assistance to support communities devastated by recent floods in Southeast Asia, particularly in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Thailand. This funding will provide essential relief, including safe shelter and urgent assistance, to the most vulnerable populations. Up to €1.8 million of the total funding will be directed towards relief efforts in Sri Lanka. In-kind Assistance & mapping Support
Beyond financial aid, the EU is also providing practical support through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Several member states have contributed essential supplies:
* Germany: Donated 4,600 shelter items, including tents, sleeping mats, and household necessities.
* France: Is sending over 3,400 shelter items.
* Italy: Deployed a team of engineering experts to assist with recovery efforts.
Furthermore, the EU activated its Copernicus emergency Management Service (EMS) in rapid mapping mode (activation EMSR851). As of December 9, 2025, the EMS has produced approximately 30 maps to aid in damage assessment and response planning.These maps provide crucial information for coordinating relief efforts and identifying areas most in need of assistance.
