Sony Channel to Air ‘Titanic’ in Rare Broadcast

This weekend, Sony Channel will present Titanic (1997) for the first time on its screen. The film, directed by James Cameron, is a classic. This premiere is notable because it is a rare instance of a film from the Disney catalog being broadcast on pan-regional pay TV, and on a channel outside of the Disney group-an unusual occurrence since the restrictions implemented in 2020 following the launch of Disney+.

Over time,Titanic has become a cultural phenomenon and a milestone in cinematic history. It currently ranks as the third highest-grossing film of all time worldwide. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, both Oscar winners, and blends romance and action against the backdrop of the tragic maiden voyage of the “unsinkable” liner-the largest mobile object ever constructed at the time.

Upon its theatrical release in 1997, the film became the highest-grossing film in history and dominated awards season, winning 11 Oscar awards.
