DBV Technologies’ Viaskin Patch Shows Promise in Pediatric Peanut Allergy Study
Shares of DBV Technologies SA experienced a meaningful increase following the proclamation of positive results from a pivotal study evaluating its investigational skin patch, Viaskin, for the treatment of peanut allergy in young children.The French pharmaceutical company reported tuesday that Viaskin demonstrated efficacy in children aged four to seven who participated in a year-long trial.
The study assessed the ability of Viaskin to improve tolerance to peanut protein. Following a year of treatment wiht the patch, patients where challenged with controlled doses of peanut protein, simulating an accidental ingestion. Results indicated that participants exhibited an improved capacity to tolerate peanut exposure compared to baseline levels.
DBV Technologies intends to submit an submission for US regulatory approval for Viaskin in the first half of the coming year, perhaps offering a new therapeutic option for children at risk of potentially life-threatening allergic reactions to peanuts.
