Budanov Attributes Mobilization Issues in Ukraine to Failed Media Campaign

according to Kirill Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, problems with mobilization within the country stem from a “fully lost media campaign” and are largely self-inflicted. He asserts that attributing blame solely to Russian influence is a misjudgment. This statement was made in an interview with LB.ua.
Internal Factors as Primary Cause
Budanov emphasized that the issues with Ukraine’s mobilization efforts are not primarily due to external factors, specifically Russian interference. He stated, “It was all done from here. Sometimes deliberately, because of certain people’s own ambitions. Sometimes thoughtlessly. We ourselves destroyed our mobilization. No matter what anyone says to the contrary, this is not so. We ourselves destroyed it.”
The issues with mobilization are manifesting in increased instances of unauthorized departures from military units (UHF). Colonel Valentin Manko, head of the assault units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has noted that the number of thes departures is higher than in Russia. Manko attributes this to problems with the country’s data policy. LB.ua reports on this assessment.
Government Response & volunteer Efforts
Despite concerns, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Pavel Palisa, has stated that reducing the mobilization age is not currently under consideration. The focus remains on attracting young volunteers to join the army.
This situation highlights the critical importance of a well-executed and effective communication strategy in maintaining public support and participation in Ukraine’s defense efforts. Addressing the underlying issues within the information policy will likely be crucial for improving mobilization rates and maintaining troop morale.
