Cuban Baseball Talent Returns to the Mound

Havana. Frank Abel Álvarez, a standout Cuban pitcher over the last five years, faced a setback with an elbow injury that sidelined him from playing in the Mexican League with the Guerreros de Oaxaca this year.

The Pinar del Río native attracted the attention of the chunichi Dragons franchise in Japan’s professional league adn signed with them in 2021. Following a lengthy recovery, Álvarez has returned to pitching, aiming to contribute to the Vegueros de Pinar del Río in the current Cuban National Series.

Álvarez demonstrated his form in a recent game against the Cocodrilos, pitching five innings with only one hit allowed and striking out six batters. This performance signals his successful return and potential impact on the Cuban league. He expressed his gratitude for the support received during his rehabilitation and his eagerness to compete at a high level once again.

Sources indicate Álvarez is focused on regaining his previous form and helping the Vegueros achieve success in the ongoing season. His return provides a critically important boost to the team’s pitching rotation and offers fans a glimpse of the talent that once captivated Japanese baseball.
