From Queen of the Caribbean to Voice in Interaction: Gina Mambru Embarks on New Chapter
EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO – After a stellar 24-year career in high-performance volleyball, 39-year-old Gina Altagracia Mambru Casilla, the celebrated “queen of the Caribbean,” is beginning a new professional journey, venturing into the world of social communication. She is confident that her experience and voice can continue to add value beyond the court.
In a special year-end interview with El Nuevo Diario, Mambru shared, “I always knew that my voice could not be left alone on the court,” recalling how her connection with the public and passion for public speaking ignited her desire to train in this field.
Closing a Historical Stage
The transition wasn’t without its emotional weight. The former member of the Queens of the Caribbean described her retirement as a process of mourning, leaving behind an identity forged over two decades.
“I always asked God to tell me when to stop. Being a high-performance athlete is an identity that embraces you 24/7. Releasing the uniform of the Queens of the Caribbean was letting go of a skin that I wore for 24 years,” she expressed, emphasizing that her departure from volleyball came with gratitude and a sense of fulfillment after a career marked by Pan American and Central American titles, as well as Olympic participation.
A New Relationship with the Media
From her new role as a communicator,Mambru believes her athletic background will allow her to approach interviews with greater empathy and depth.
“I know what an athlete feels when thay put a microphone on them after a loss or a victory,” she stated, highlighting her commitment to respect and continuous learning.

END: What area of communication are you most eager to explore?
GM: The area of public relations, and I woudl like to debate and be able to handle all the issues.
END: Do you have any projects or proposals in the pipeline?
GM: It is indeed something that is yet to be defined.
Gina graduated in public speaking from the EDOCO school and is currently studying at the Universidad Católica Santo Domingo (UCSD).

Mambru believes that discipline, the ability to work under pressure, and the record she achieved as an athlete will be crucial in this new professional endeavor.
“If something doesn’t go well, you train and repeat it until it does,” she stated, also emphasizing the values of teamwork, respect, and excellence as cornerstones of her training.
