What did Jesus give this year? Quite possibly a new mobile phone, headphones or tablet with an apple in the logo. According to data from electronics retailers, sales of iPhones, iPads and electronics overall rise every year before Christmas.
Apple doesn’t even have time to produce some models this year, so many people have to wait for a new phone. However, other brands, such as Samsung, are also popular.
Last year, according to a survey by the online store CZC, 67 percent of Czechs gave their closest loved ones electronics under the tree. In addition, they are not afraid to invest relatively large amounts in such a gift, 37 percent of respondents gave more than half of their total gift budget for it.
A large part of Christmas shopping takes place online every year.According to the executive director of the Association for Electronic Commerce (APEK),Jan Vetyška,during the best pre-Christmas days, the total spending of Czechs on goods from online stores exceeds one billion crowns per day, which is similar to Black Friday.”Approximately a quarter of shoppers order goods from the category of electronics, mobile phones or computers as a Christmas gift. Electronics, as more expensive goods, traditionally bring a critically important part of sales to e-shops,” he describes, adding that gifts in the form of toys, books or tickets are also more popular.
“The pre-Christmas period is normally the strongest from the point of view of electronics sales. This year at O2, we are dominated by Samsung, Xiaomi and Apple phone brands. Among the best-selling models are the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 14, which also took the first two places in the Heureka ranking,” confirms O2 hardware manager aleš Brázda.

iPhone 17: high Demand Leads to Shipping Issues
Strong demand is causing delivery delays for some iPhone 17 configurations. These issues aren’t affecting all models, but specific colors and storage capacities are experiencing longer wait times. The base iPhone 17 is particularly popular this year.
The iPhone 17 starts around 22,500 Czech crowns. Customers are reporting weeks-long waits for pre-ordered phones. Some who expected delivery before the holidays may receive notifications that their order will arrive in the coming days or weeks.
“The huge demand is to blame. Delivery problems do not concern all models, but only selected colors and capacities. The interest in the basic iPhone 17 is enormous this year and it is no wonder, the model really did well,” says Lukáš valouch from TS Bohemia.
People in online discussions complain that they waited several weeks for the phone they ordered. It is indeed thus possible that some of the recipients found a message under the tree saying that they would receive the phone, but only in the next days or weeks.
