Though, concerns have been raised about the fund’s investments in companies with questionable environmental practices, such as those involved in large-scale deforestation for biomass energy production or those with a history of environmental violations.
“The Oil Fund claims to be a leader in responsible investment, but its actions don’t always align with its rhetoric,” says Lisa Jacobsen, a spokesperson for Greenpeace Norway. “They are investing in companies that are actively harming the planet, undermining their own sustainability goals.”
The fund defends its approach, stating that it engages with companies to encourage better environmental practices. They also emphasize the importance of diversification and achieving strong financial returns to ensure the long-term sustainability of the fund itself, which benefits the Norwegian population.
“We believe that active ownership is the most effective way to drive positive change,” explains fund spokesperson, Erik Holm. “By engaging with companies, we can encourage them to adopt more sustainable practices and reduce their environmental impact.”
However, critics argue that engagement alone is not enough and that the fund should divest from companies that are demonstrably harmful to the environment. They point to the fund’s continued investments in companies involved in fossil fuels as evidence of a lack of genuine commitment to a sustainable future.
The debate over the Oil Fund’s renewable energy investments highlights the challenges of balancing financial returns with environmental responsibility. As pressure mounts on investors to address climate change, the fund will likely face increasing scrutiny over its investment decisions.

The police were contacted about a man and woman openly having sex at the bus stop arrivals platform at Oslo airport Gardermoen. Police arrived on the scene and made contact with the individuals, as noted in their log at 02:30 on the night of Boxing Day.
They emphasize that the act occurred openly and in a highly populated area.
There is no indication the encounter was non-consensual, but police are opening a case due to the incident’s public nature and location in a busy area.
Operations manager Rune Isaksen declined to speculate whether the act was prompted by joyful reunion after a long journey.
“We were contacted by witnesses. There was no attempt to hide,” Isaksen told VG.

“On both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, the Christmas peace loosens up a bit.”
