Jeff Zimmerman was calmly walking his dog in his Phoenix neighborhood on December 13 when an individual on a bicycle approached and violently attacked him, knocking him to the ground, according to his daughter, Kiera, in a report from AZFamily.

The attack nearly killed the 71-year-old man, who has battled a brain tumor for 16 years, his daughter said. Two passersby intervened, stopping the assault and pulling the suspect away, ultimately saving his life. “The fact that they were in the right place at the right time is literally an act of God. It’s astonishing. He’s okay as of these two strangers who were there at the right time,” Kiera told the outlet.
