Time is Critical in Stroke Treatment

Professor Dr. Midi emphasizes that early intervention and rapid access to a professional healthcare team are vital for stroke patients.

A stroke occurs when blood vessels supplying the brain are blocked or rupture. In either scenario, symptoms appear suddenly, and delays in treatment can have severe consequences.

“EARLY SYMPTOMS ARE NOT TAKEN SERIOUS ENOUGH”

Professor Dr. Midi notes that early stroke symptoms are frequently enough dismissed. “Symptoms like sudden weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg, vision loss, speech difficulties, dizziness, loss of balance, and even loss of consciousness can occur. if these happen, the patient needs immediate transport to the nearest stroke center. Call 112 – don’t delay, and don’t attempt to drive the patient yourself.”

The first few hours after a stroke are crucial. “Acute stroke treatment is only effective within the first 4.5 hours,” explains Prof. Dr. İpek Midi. “During this window, clot-busting drugs can be administered intravenously. Eligible patients may also undergo thrombectomy – clot removal – in the angiography unit.After this timeframe,treatment options diminish,and the risk of permanent paralysis increases significantly.”
