Cullen Questions Munster’s Squad Composition as Frawley Departs

Following the hard-fought win on enemy territory at Thomond Park, Leinster head coach Leo Cullen voiced concerns about the composition of Munster’s squad.

Speaking pitch side on Premier Sports, Cullen questioned former Munster stalwart Simon Zebo about the number of Leinster-developed players now featuring for their rivals. He repeatedly asked if there were more Leinster imports than homegrown talent in the munster team.

Munster’s starting lineup against Leinster included four players – Tom Farrell,Michael Milne,Lee Barron,and Tadhg Beirne – who began their careers with Leinster. Cullen appeared determined to highlight this point.

This exchange occurred shortly before Ciarán Frawley’s departure to Connacht was confirmed, the latest player to leave Leinster in search of consistent playing time. Frawley is the most prominent player to exit the province as Joey Carbery joined Munster in 2018.

former Leinster and Ireland hooker Bernard Jackman, speaking on the RTÉ Rugby podcast, believes Frawley’s move is significant for Connacht, Irish rugby, and the player himself, who aims to secure the number 10 jersey.

“He’s going to play at 10, there’s no doubt about that,” Jackman said.”He has been incredibly loyal to Leinster, staying two or three years longer than others might have.

“His versatility hasn’t helped him get a regular run of games. We’ve seen him play at 10, but he hasn’t had the consistent opportunity to lead the team and establish himself as the primary number 10. His talent deserves that chance.”
