Beijing, China – President Lee Jae-myung, on a state visit to China, met with business leaders from both countries on January 5th and called for practical economic cooperation to strengthen Korea-China relations, stating, “Korea and China are inseparable close neighbors.”

This morning, President Lee attended the ‘Korea-China Business Forum,’ jointly hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the China International Trade Promotion Commission at Diaoyu University, the state guest house in Beijing. The forum focused on ways to expand economic cooperation between the two nations.

This event, held during President Lee’s first state visit to China, marked the first gathering of its kind in nine years. A total of 600 people attended, including 416 members of the 161-person Korean economic mission and 200 Chinese business representatives. Vice Premier Heifeng of Economic Affairs represented the Chinese government.

In his keynote speech, President Lee highlighted the ‘Byeokrando spirit’ – the flow of technology, value, culture, and trust – as the key to future Korea-china cooperation. he explained that Byeokrando was a ancient center of international trade and exchange between Goryeo and the Song Dynasty.

“Just like its name, which means ‘naru’ overflowing with blue waves, Byeokrando was more than just a place to buy and sell goods.it was a hub where people, technology, ideas, and cultures of the two countries interacted,” President Lee said.

He added, “Goryeo and the Song Dynasty pursued their own progress and cultural growth thru trade and the exchange of knowledge. even during times of diplomatic tension, trade and exchanges through Byeokrando continued.”

President Lee urged both countries to “write new values together by adding the color and narrative of services and content to the strong foundation of manufacturing.” He also called for a cooperative structure that leads to the development and lasting growth of both nations.

He stressed that private-sector exchange and cooperation are crucial for turning the consensus between the two countries into tangible results. He encouraged business leaders to expand innovation and cooperation in manufacturing and cultural exchange.
