Ten Million Euros Dedicated to Fire Prevention and the Reconstruction of Aude

At the heart of last summer,the Aude department was hit by a huge fire. No one has forgotten this mega fire which ravaged 17,000 hectares, affected 15 municipalities and killed one person. As then, the State has devoted 10 million euros to fire prevention and the reconstruction of the department.

Last August,Aude was severely affected by a mega fire. Five months later, it is indeed still on everyone’s minds in the department. How could we forget the 17,000 hectares ravaged by the fire in the Corbières massif and this fire which affected around fifteen municipalities around Ribaute, its starting point, and the person who died in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse?

The State announced a few days ago that it had released remarkable subsidies for the severely affected municipalities.An envelope of 465,600 euros has been granted. In 2025, eight million euros will also be allocated to winegrowers affected by the fires.

the Aude department has decided to increase resources for firefighters over the next five years.This should allow for the development of air resources. “Throughout the surveillance phase, they are essential, even if they don’t extinguish the fire. It’s the combination of ground and air resources” that stops “an incipient fire”, explains Colonel Christophe Magny, head of the Aude departmental fire and rescue service.

“There is a discussion underway to equip the firefighters of Aude wiht a water-bombing helicopter, specific to the SDIS, which would be located to the east of the department in the Narbonne sector, the most sensitive area, in order to have an immediate response to fire starts in addition to the ground teams to prevent them from escalating”, he adds.
