Puebla Invests in Healthcare, Honors Nurses on International Nurses Day

City of Puebla, Mexico – January 6, 2026 – Governor Alejandro Armenta recently led the commemoration of Nurses Day in Puebla, reaffirming his management’s commitment to bolstering the state’s healthcare system and recognizing the vital role nurses play in public health. The event highlighted a important investment of over 636 million pesos allocated to improve hospital infrastructure and resources.

Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure and Resources

Governor Armenta emphasized that the initiative aligns with the vision of President claudia Sheinbaum, prioritizing human dignity, social justice, and the recognition of healthcare professionals. The investment will be strategically distributed to enhance healthcare facilities and provide essential supplies. Specifically,the plan includes:

• Over 636 million pesos for improvements to 20 hospitals across Puebla.
• More than 439 million pesos dedicated to upgrading 55 medical units.
• The procurement of 314,000 medicines and pharmaceutical products.
• The acquisition of 1.3 million stomatology supplies.

These investments aim to improve both the working conditions of healthcare personnel and the quality of care provided to patients.

Recognizing the Dedication of Puebla’s Nursing professionals

The commemoration served as an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of over 13,000 nursing professionals throughout the state of Puebla. Secretary of Health, Carlos Alberto Olivier Pacheco, reiterated the agency’s commitment to building a more robust, humane, and accessible healthcare system for all citizens. The event underscored the importance of nurses as a cornerstone of public health, emphasizing their ethical commitment and contribution to patient well-being.

Honoring Legacy and Service

During the ceremony, awards were presented to nursing staff from across the state’s 10 health jurisdictions and various healthcare institutions, recognizing their extraordinary work, particularly during the recent challenges posed by heavy rains in the Sierra Norte region. Posthumous honors were also bestowed upon Odilia Bustos Bolaños and Reyna León santiago, celebrating the lasting legacy of nurses who have dedicated their lives to serving the people of Puebla. maría Serena Álvarez, head of the Nursing Department, highlighted the importance of recognizing the ethical and socially conscious work of nurses in supporting humanistic medical care.
