Vietnam Leads the Way in Online Ad Regulation: Skippable Ads Within 5 Seconds
Vietnam is set to become the first country globally to enforce regulations on online advertising, directly impacting platforms like YouTube. New rules, effective February 15, 2026, will mandate that all online video and animated image advertisements must be skippable within five seconds.
The regulations extend beyond video ads, targeting intrusive pop-up ads that obstruct content and employ misleading or overly small close buttons.Unreasonable waiting times for static ad removal will also be prohibited.
Online platform operators, advertisers, and ad service providers will be required to remove non-compliant ads within 24 hours of notification from authorities. This pioneering legislation aims to improve user experience by curbing disruptive and frustrating online advertising practices.
