European Grain Market Update: Wheat and Corn Prices Decline
European wheat and corn prices experienced a downturn on tuesday, despite positive demand signals from international buyers. While Saudi Arabia and Algeria recently concluded significant wheat purchases – totaling over 900kt and 720kt respectively – these purchases favored Black Sea and Argentinian grain due to their competitive pricing. This trend continues to pressure European markets, exacerbated by a strengthening Eurodollar parity.
Corn prices mirrored wheat’s decline, also influenced by the currency exchange rate. Adding to the uncertainty, the potential for a renewed tariff war between the US and the EU looms, with possible sanctions against American corn imports. Logistical challenges faced by Ukrainian exporters are simultaneously shifting some European demand towards French corn.
As of 1:00 PM today, Euronext wheat (March 2026) closed at €189.50/t, down €1.75/t, and the May 2026 contract settled at €190.25/t, also down €1.75/t. Euronext corn (March 2026) fell to €192/t, a decrease of €1.75/t, while the June 2026 contract decreased by €1.50/t to €191.25/t.
