Iranian Ambassador Attributes Protests to Sanctions, Accuses External Interference

Paris, France – Iranian Ambassador to France, Mohammad Aminnezhed, has attributed recent public unrest in Iran primarily to the economic pressures imposed by international sanctions. In an interview with the OMERTA media group, Ambassador Aminnezhed stated that the grievances fueling the protests stem directly from economic hardship.

Acknowledging the protests, the ambassador confirmed that Iranian authorities have formally recognized the public demands. He argued that continued external pressure and interference are counterproductive, asserting that the lifting of what he termed “illegal” sanctions represents the most effective pathway to improving the lives of Iranian youth.

Aminnezhed specifically linked the economic difficulties to the re-imposition of sanctions following the United States’ withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018.He emphasized that this withdrawal triggered a cascade of economic challenges for Iran and its citizens.

Despite acknowledging the economic impact of sanctions, the ambassador highlighted ongoing goverment efforts to manage resources and implement urgent policy reforms designed to mitigate the effects of the sanctions and improve economic conditions.

regarding the nature of the protests, Aminnezhed characterized the initial demonstrations as peaceful and legitimate expressions of public concern. However, he claimed these protests were subsequently “hijacked” by external actors and organized elements, leading to escalating violence, destruction of property, and casualties among both civilians and security forces.

Defending the implementation of temporary internet restrictions, the ambassador characterized them as a necessary measure to curb violence and protect lives during the period of unrest.

aminnezhed rejected narratives suggesting systemic collapse within Iran, pointing to the Islamic Republic’s resilience in the face of decades of external pressure. He cited the 2015 nuclear accord as evidence that reducing sanctions leads to tangible economic betterment and a renewed sense of hope within iranian society. The ambassador reiterated iran’s commitment to finding diplomatic solutions to address international concerns while safeguarding its sovereignty and economic well-being.
