Symphonic Hit with Goran Gora: Music, Conversation, and Environmental Awareness
This concert is not only enjoyable for the ears but also attracts other senses. The musical performances are supplemented with valuable and exciting conversations, sometimes featuring unusual performances, as well as bright animations.
This time, Jānis Holšteins-Upmanis or Goran Gora will meet with researcher Solvitas Strākis to talk about today’s environmental challenges: air pollution and climate change, pollution caused by fast fashion and mountains of plastic, as well as the rapid decline of biodiversity. How does a person figure in thes changes?
The concert offers a unique chance to delve not only into music but also into the pressing issues of our time, where art and science meet in a unified dialog. Solvita strāķe is a leading researcher and head of the Hydrobiology Laboratory of the Marine Monitoring Department of the Latvian Institute of Aquatic ecology (LIAE). She has more than 20 years of experience in the research of the Baltic Sea ecosystem – from the analysis of the role of plankton organisms in the circulation of substances to the mapping of underwater habitats and the study of protected areas.
The concert will feature symphonic music hits, as well as Claude Debussy’s picturesque La Mer ( Sea ) from the cycle, Vltava from Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, Platon Buravits’ concerto for saxophone and orchestra Plastic Temperature with a brilliant solo by Aigars Raumanis, and the symphonic poem by the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana Vltava from the cycle Má Vlast (My homeland).
Saxophonist Aigars Raumanis is one of the brightest Latvian musicians of the younger generation, laureate of several international competitions, laureate of the Music Award in the category Young Artist of the Year (2019), and nominee in the category For outstanding Performance Throughout the Year (2023). He was the Latvian Radio 3 Klasika artist in residence for 2023, not 2025.
For the first time, the young Portuguese conductor Rui Miguel Marques will stand at the helm of the LNSO. Since january 2024, he has held the position of assistant conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, where he closely cooperates with the orchestra’s chief conductor Andris Poga and various guest conductors. This year, the young conductor makes his debut in several orchestras – not only the LNSO, but also the Brazilian national Symphony Orchestra, the Pleven Philharmonic and the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra.
Symphonic Hit with Goran Gora‘s creative team consists of director Roberts Rubīns, playwright Jānis Jonevs, artist Krišs Salmanis, and animator Pauls poikāns.
