Teen Robbed at Gunpoint: Facebook Marketplace Sale Gone Wrong in Akron

A 17-year-old male was robbed at gunpoint Monday evening during a Facebook Marketplace transaction in Akron, police reported.

Akron police responded to a call regarding an armed robbery at approximately 9:38 p.m. in the 300 block of East South Street, according to Lt. Michael Murphy’s police report.

The victim told officers he arranged to sell a hoodie to a buyer he met through Facebook Marketplace. While seated in his vehicle, he was confronted by three to four masked individuals who brandished a firearm and stole his property.

Police are actively investigating the incident and encourage anyone with data to contact the Akron Police Department.Authorities remind citizens to exercise caution when meeting strangers for online transactions and to consider utilizing designated safe exchange zones offered by local law enforcement.
