Tiësto Pursues Settlement with Greenberg Traurig Over $17 Million Tax Liability
World-renowned DJ Tiësto is set to enter settlement talks with the American law firm Greenberg Traurig in the coming two weeks, aiming to recover millions in damages stemming from alleged incorrect tax advice. The dispute centers around a $17 million payment Tiësto (Tijs verwest) was compelled to make to U.S. tax authorities in 2020.
The growth follows a hearing at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal on Tuesday, where both parties agreed to pursue a negotiated resolution. Arnold Croiset van Uchelen, Tiësto’s legal counsel, expressed optimism following the hearing, stating, “We are going to do our best to reach an agreement.”
The core of the legal battle revolves around whether Tiësto suffered financial harm as a direct result of Greenberg Traurig’s advice. In a previous ruling in 2024,the court acknowledged the tax advice provided was flawed. However, it steadfast that Tiësto would likely have incurred similar tax obligations in the United States nonetheless of the advice, potentially even a higher amount.
Tiësto vehemently disputes this assessment. The outcome will likely set a precedent regarding the obligation of legal firms in providing accurate international tax advice to high-profile clients.
