John Textor‘s Influence at Botafogo Expected too Grow Following Thairo Arruda’s Resignation

The departure of Thairo Arruda from his position is expected to bring John Textor, the owner of Botafogo’s Sociedade Anônima de Futebol (SAF), closer to the direct management of the club. This assessment comes from reports published by the Brazilian newspaper “O Globo” on February 6th.

Danilo Caixeiro, the current managing director of Botafogo SAF, and Thairo Arruda are partners at matix Capital. Both played a pivotal role in facilitating the sale of Botafogo’s SAF to John Textor in late 2021, successfully persuading the American businessman to invest in the historic Rio de Janeiro club.

Sources indicate that even prior to the finalization of Arruda’s resignation, Textor was already considering the addition of further managerial personnel to support caixeiro in leading the SAF. This suggests a proactive approach to solidifying control and implementing his vision for the club.

According to “O Globo,” “Now, without his former right-hand man, the American businessman has a clear path to placing a new trusted name in the CEO position.” This statement highlights the chance for Textor to appoint a leader fully aligned with his strategic objectives for Botafogo.
