Wiandre Pretorius, who was implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, is suspected to have died by suicide on Saturday, two days after he survived a hit at his Boksburg home on Thursday.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, confirmed in a statement that an inquest docket had been registered after a 41-year-old man allegedly shot and killed himself at a filling station in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday.
She did not disclose the man’s identity.
“All role players, including police detectives and forensic experts, attended the crime scene. This matter is under investigation,” she said.

Marius van der Merwe, known as Witness D at the Madlanga Commission, had previously placed Pretorius at the scene where Emmanuel Mbense was allegedly tortured, murdered, and dumped in a dam in 2022.
Wiandre Pretorius has taken his own life. He reportedly shot himself at a petrol filing station in Brakpan on the East Rand.
Earlier this week, he claimed there was an attempt on his life outside his Boksburg home. Gunmen fired several shots.
