TNI Leadership Race: Tampubolon and Baay as Army Chief Candidates

JAKARTA – Discourse on changing the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) TNI General Maruli Simanjuntak continues to roll. Two names have been mentioned as having the opportunity to occupy the leadership of the Indonesian Army.

The two, namely, Head of the TNI General Lt. Gen. Richard Taruli Haroja Tampubolon and Principal Secretary (Sestama) of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Lt. Gen. TNI Rafael Granada Baay.

Military and intelligence observer Susaningtyas Kertopati said that the two TNI Lieutenant Generals (Lt. Gen.) had the capital to fulfill the requirements to become Army Chief of Staff.

“Both of them have held the position of Military Commander and have excellent knowledge and understanding of geopolitics,” he said, Monday (9/2/2026).
