Blizzard removed the “2” and immediately added five new heroes.

Blizzard Entertainment has officially launched a new chapter in the history of its more than ten-year-old free-to-play PvP shooter Overwatch. The studio has given up the number “2” in the title, while releasing five new heroes and carrying out a large-scale reboot, which noticeably changes key elements of the game.

The first season, which began on February 10, is titled Conquest and launched the Reign of Talon story arc, which will run over six seasons. The starting point of the story is Vendetta’s victory over Doomfist and the takeover of the Talon organization.

One of the main novelties of the season is a peculiar “faction war”. Players can choose the side of Overwatch or Talon and complete weekly missions, earning rewards. The faction that makes the most overall progress will receive a more valuable prize. During the first season, two “battles” of this type will be held, and in the second, players will be able to change sides.

Blizzard has also confirmed that another five new heroes will be released by the end of 2026, one with the launch of each new season. It is not yet known whether this pace will be maintained in 2027, but plans for next year are already defined.

At the time of publication, the re-release of Overwatch on Steam alone attracted the attention of almost 120 thousand players.
