Windows 10 Update Urgent: Microsoft Warns Users Now!

This technology company founded by Bill Gates is asking users Windows 10 immediately update the system, following the expiration of the validity period Secure Boot certificates next June.

Microsoft said, if this update is not carried out, Windows 10 devices are at risk of getting into a state degraded security state or the level of security will decrease.

Secure Boot itself is an important security feature that functions to protect the computer from the moment it is first started. This feature ensures that only trusted software and systems are allowed to run at any time PC do booting.

Microsoft first introduced Secure Boot in 2011 with Windows 8. The aim was to prevent attacks pre-boot malwarethat is malware who attacked before operating system really active.

The problem is, almost all Windows devices have been using the same Secure Boot certificate for years, namely the 2011 release. After 15 years, the certificate will expire starting June 2026.

Microsoft emphasized that PCs that do not receive the new certificate can still be turned on and used as usual. However, from a security perspective, the device will experience a serious reduction in protection.

“The device will continue to function, but enter a degraded security state and will no longer be able to accept new protections at the boot level,” Microsoft said.

In this condition, the PC is potentially more vulnerable to advanced malware, including malware capable of infecting the firmware. This type of malware is dangerous because it can persist even after the operating system is reinstalled.

Microsoft also warned that going forward, devices that don’t get certificate updates are at risk of compatibility issues with firmware, hardwareuntil software latest that relies on Secure Boot.

The options: update or upgrade

This 2015 operating system has actually officially lost mainstream support since October 2025, so it no longer receives regular security updates.

The problem is, currently, around 36 percent of Windows desktop users in the world are still at home running Windows 10, according to StatCounter data as of January 2026.
