Colorado State Softball Falls to UC San Diego in Close Contest

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Colorado State Rams suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat against the UC San Diego Tritons on Sunday at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex . Despite a strong offensive showing highlighted by a three-run fifth inning, CSU was unable to hold off a late rally from UC San Diego.

The game began as a pitching duel, with both teams remaining scoreless through the first inning. UC San Diego broke the deadlock in the second inning, scoring two runs. Colorado State responded in the third when Jailey Wilson hit an RBI groundout, capitalizing on Kaylynn English’s sacrifice bunt, to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The fifth inning proved to be pivotal for the Rams. Autumn Rutherford led off with a single, followed by a walk from Lauren Stucky. Wilson then delivered a three-run home run to deep left field, giving Colorado State a 4-2 lead. Still, UC San Diego quickly answered in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run home run of their own, regaining a 5-4 advantage.

Despite a single by Wilson in the seventh inning, Colorado State couldn’t mount a comeback.

Key Player Performances

Reagan Wick pitched a complete game for Colorado State, allowing eight hits and five runs over six innings, while recording four strikeouts . Jailey Wilson was a standout offensively, driving in four runs with a home run and a single. Allyson Moody added a double and a walk, while Madi Eslinger contributed a hit as a pinch-hitter.

Next Up

The Rams will travel to Texas to compete in the River State Classic from February 20-22 before returning to Ram Field the following week .
