Tiffany & Co. Honors a Legacy of Brilliance with the New Enamel Watch
Tiffany & Co. Is drawing inspiration from its rich archives to introduce the Enamel watch, a horological tribute to Jean Schlumberger’s iconic 1962 Paillonné Enamel bangles. This new timepiece represents a fusion of high jewelry and Swiss watchmaking precision.
A Dial Inspired by a Jewelry Icon
The watch’s dial features a captivating design: a central disc set with snow-set diamonds contrasts with a rotating outer ring available in Tiffany Blue or white enamel. Twelve 18k yellow gold cross-stitches, reminiscent of Schlumberger’s aesthetic, serve as hour markers that move freely with the wearer’s wrist, creating a dynamic visual effect.
The Art of Paillonné Enamel
Crafting the Enamel watch is a meticulous process, requiring 65 hours of labor, with 55 hours dedicated to the paillonné enameling technique. This 19th-century technique, revived by Schlumberger in 1962, involves layering hand-cut gold or silver leaf beneath translucent enamel and repeatedly firing it at high temperatures to achieve exceptional color depth. Schlumberger originally applied this technique to his Croisillon bangles, transforming them into bold statements of style.
