Philippines Showcases Future-Ready Skills Systems to ASEAN Partners

The Philippines is actively demonstrating its advancements in skills development to its ASEAN counterparts, reinforcing its commitment to regional cooperation and workforce mobility. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration’s focus on enhancing education and skills training to drive employment, productivity, and regional integration.

ASEAN Collaboration on Skills Recognition

From February 9 to 11, 2026, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) hosted delegates from the ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework (AQRF) Committee at its complex in Taguig City. The meeting, themed “Navigating Our Future, Together,” brought together representatives from 11 ASEAN member states – Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam – to foster collaboration on qualifications transparency, quality assurance, and mutual recognition of skills [Philippine Information Agency].

TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez highlighted the full operationalization of the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF), emphasizing its legal foundation, robust quality assurance mechanisms, and industry relevance. “The ultimate aim of operationalizing the PQF through these centers is to support the mobility of learners and workers. We hope that, because our system is aligned with the AQRF, the skills demonstrated here are more easily understood and recognized by employers across ASEAN,” Secretary Benitez stated.

Showcasing Technological Advancements in TVET

The site visit provided ASEAN delegates with a firsthand look at TESDA’s technology-driven, gender-responsive, and hands-on technical vocational education and training (TVET) programs, delivered through strong industry partnerships. Key facilities visited included the TESDA Women’s Center, Regional Training Center–NCR, and WorldSkills/Human Resource Development Center [Philippine Information Agency].

Demonstrations of skills in areas such as bartending, plumbing, visual graphic design, mechatronics, welding using virtual reality, creative innovation, and Industry 4.0 technologies were showcased.

The 16th AQRF Committee Meeting and site visit are part of the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship in 2026, underscoring the nation’s commitment to regional cooperation, human capital development, and stronger ASEAN integration.
